Solar Scavanger Hunt

Locate various light sources, and measure their radiant energy. Additionally, see how distance effects energy readings.

Quick Guide
  • Ruler
  • Paper and Pen
  • Solar Panel
  • Multimeter
  1. Identify different light sources around you. For example, a table lamp, a ceiling light, and the sun.
  2. Use solar panel and multimeter to measure the radiant energy of identified light sources.
  3. Test each light source individually. Meausure the raidiant energy of the source from various distances. The desk lamp and ceiling light: 1inch vs. 12 inchs; The sun.

Which light source has the most radiant energy? The sun, even at 93 million miles away!
